well, since last time I’ve been on the move alot. After finishing my training stint up at Thredbo I had to embark on the long drive home which is about 2000km away, much to far for one hit so luckily my girlfriends parents live about 6hours into the trip at Terrigal on the NSW central coast where I stayed one night. The next day I drove another 3hours up to a secret surfing spot near Forster where my girlfriends brother was having his bucks night, or nights  and seen as I am best man at wedding I HAD to be there hehehe.  It wasn’t the usual bucks do that I am used to as he is into surfing and camping not the nightclub/stripclub city thing.

I’ve never camped in my life so it was all new to me, but luckily they looked after me and I had my own tent and comfy blow up mattress. I did look a  little outta place in the surf though, as I can’t surf at all, never really tried despite living all my life within 30min drive to the beach, and spending years on sunshine and gold coasts, what made it worse was that a few guys on bucks were pro surfers!!! so I mostly stuck to body surfing.

After 2 nights camping I made it home the rest of the way. I was planning on staying a few nights in Port Macquarie to stay with mate and get some training on the Ironman Oz course but I was tired and my mate was still in celebration mode after winning IM busselton so didn’t want to get roped into that.

Once home, I rang up the coach of the swim squad where I train when at home to check times etc. He says we are up at Noosa for the week but go to the pool at 4pm and I’ve got a set there for you and Jana to do. I say cool, no worries, but thought I don’t know any Jana, must be a new girl. So I get to the pool and Jana is there and she has a german accent, which isn’t too unusual as the squad often gets overseas visitors for a while (to get the aussie swim secrets). We start the warm up and I’m gauging her thinking yeah she’s pretty good, but probably nothing special. Then we look at the whiteboard, and the set was long and fast……so I say to her ummmm you can lead and she replies with a touch of sarcasim ummm yeah.

I find out half way through the session that she came 4th at beijing in 800m!!!! It’s not like I’m starstruck, I’ve swum in squads with Keiren Perkins, Grant Hackett etc etc, and plenty of beijing gold came outta the squad I swim with now, but I alway seem to gain inspiration from these swimmers, the dedication and effort that these athletes put themselves through is incredible to watch, day in day out, same formula week in week out for years on end all leading up to one moment where the brightest stars shine, reap the rewards, and the others……put it down to life experience hehehe.

Well I guess I could introduce myself, but I already did that in the forum a little while ago, but over ute course of the year I hope you all get to know me well through these blogs. I have plenty of stories from over the years doing tri’s seen as I did my first one in ’89!!!

As I write this I am up in thredbo, which is a ski type village near the NSW/VIC border. It is 1400m altitude, quiet, hilly, fresh air, indoor 50m pool and away from distractions of home life, absolute training heaven, although I do miss my family. This is my 4th year in a row coming up here in the new years period and always enjoy knuckling down and working off the Xmas belly.
This time round I have added motivation as in a couple of weeks I’ll make my debut race for team TBB at the Geelong 70.3, and all my preperations are on track. I am injury free and building my strength rapidly on the challenging terrain.
Can’t wait to see my new team mates and re-unite with doc.
Come back soon cam…..
