I’m Sure I’m not the Only One

May 23rd, 2009 by leacolinelangit

I’m sure I’m not the only one who experienced this kind of LUCK!!!

Have you woke up in the morning and feel so good for your upcoming day or training day…

So six days ago I was feeling great….I woke up in the right side of the bed, let just put it that way…on that morning the schedule was a 2 hours ride then right after the ride go to the pool for a swim session.
So I was ready to go for my ride… I eventually found out my REAR TIRE has a puncture, before the ride. Change the tire as fast as a can, good thing I have a spare tube beside me….

So went for my ride….50mins in my ride…just starting my loop in the airport… BOOM!!!! Sound like someone shot me at the back…my REAR WHEEL explode…then I stop and look at the damage…it was a big cut through my tire …I ran through something probably a sharp stone or something….what the heck don’t care!

At this time, things are not going great…took me a while to patch the exterior and interior. I was sun bathing in the airport while I do the patching…I have to hurry because I have a 11am swim session…

Finish patching, time to go to the pool, I was hoping the patch will work…

NO it didn’t work…less than a kilometer all of the air in my REAR Tire is gone!!!! At this time I was procrastinating already. No more patch and extra tire, I have already used it all…During this time I was looking for a taxi to get me to BRENT pool…no Taxi for 30 to 40mins (When your not waiting for a Taxi you’ll see a taxi, when your looking for one you can’t get one)… I was walking/riding my bike as slow as possible in the middle of the summer, I was frying, sweating, stressed ect…

Eventually I got a taxi then went to BRENT 30mins late did the whole workout. Went back home and fix the wheel…I actually change my whole training wheel now…yeah!

Wait, not over yet…I woke up the following morning…my REAR TIRE lost a lot of air overnight….Something is wrong again!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!!…very small puncture!!!!

SUBIT 2009

May 19th, 2009 by leacolinelangit

I have been racing the SUBIT (Subic International Triathlon) race for seven years now from junior races to Elite racing. This year the course was change for good in my opinion. We swam at Dungaree beach where T1 was also located. The Bike course was composed of a big loop: from dungaree beach turn around point was before Jungle Joe then go to board walk to complete the big loop then a small flat 10k loop. The is still T2 is located at boardwalk.

I was with 5 other girls who completed the first loop on the swim then 2 Chinese girls broke away. I’ve been training here in Subic for a year now so I know the bike course pretty well so I use my familiarization on the bike course and catch the 2 Chinese and drop the South African girl at the hill. I didn’t saw the Japanese girl who broke away in the sharp right turn. I was pushing and pushing on the bike. I tried to bridge the gap , other girls don’t want to work so it’s up to me, but I failed.

On the start of the run I was feeling good then after 600 meters on the run I got a stomach cramp..The whole 46 min of the run I was jogging, stopping, walking and running…I was pushing myself to finish the race. I finally finish the race in 5th place…

Can’t wait for next year SUBIT….I’ll get my revenge…

A Tribute to a Great Man

May 12th, 2009 by leacolinelangit

How we define Great Man may vary, but I thought of couple of things that may sums up a great man.
• Someone, who has a positive impact to an individual or a society
• Someone, who do their profession above normal or average
• Someone who is admire by many

Seven days ago around 530 in the morning, I was about to leave for training when my mom told me devastating news that Tito Bert Lozada passed away. He was battling cancer for years.
Remberto “Bert” Lozada is an icon in Philippine swimming. His vision of teaching swimming, especially the young ones from water safety to competitive swimming have reached a great height. The Bert Lozada Swim School is run by his whole family. One of his son, Coach Angelo was my swim coach from there everything is history. The Lozada family has been our extended family. When Coach Angelo retired coaching competitive swim, he concentrated with their family business, our family and the Lozada’s family bonded more. The Lozada’s help us start our life in Manila almost a decade ago when we move from our Province (Naga, City Camarines Sur). Every family events are shared both ways.

One of my unforgettable event of Tito Bert:
It was 8 years ago, I was fed up on swimming. I told my parents that I want to try tennis, because they have a cute outfit and I like to smash stuff. I was a fast learner, the instructor was so impressed in my backhand, and it was like a Roger Federer backhand. I was considering entering the varsity team in tennis at University. After a few months I was having fun in tennis and I was swimming less and less. Tito Bert told my parents I should go back to swim. Well, of course I was back in swimming in a snap…hahaha Bye bye Tennis. After couple of my weeks in my return in swimming, I was enjoying the sport again.

The last time I saw Tito Bert was last August watching the Olympic Triathlon in their house ☹

Thank you so much Tito Bert for leading me back to swimming, with out you I will not be right here right now in Triathlon.
It is a shame that I won’t be in Manila to visit Tito’s Bert wake or go to his funeral, I hope this blog will make up for it…. just a little. I’m sad but also happy that he is now in God’s hand.

Remember this, people who can make a great impact in your life can be a great man or women, even small advice that he or she gave you can change your life for good. Make sure you listen to them, follow their lead and thank them. Tito Bert is one of on my list. But I know he will not be that last.

Rest in peace Tito Bert you’ll be miss, especially your voice at the deck of the pool

Tongeyeong, Korea WCS

May 7th, 2009 by leacolinelangit

Tongyeong Dextro Energy Triathlon – was the first leg of the ITU World Championship Series
Friday Afternoon:
I was looking forward in this race to race with the best in my sport.
Saturday Race day:
1pm:to add drama to my race day. Going to the race venue I got a puncture in my rear tire , I was lucky enough that Coach Melvin is there to help me out and we where efficient enough to fix the problem together.

Race start, No Holding Back!!! The race is on, the water was freezing for the Filipina…
Coming into the first transition I was on a group, coming out of it I was with no group… Getting rid of my wetsuit took me a while, I screwed up on that part big time and I almost fell down butt first in the transition area while I was trying to remove my wetsuit, that will not be a pretty sight..thank God for my reflex
Bike: On the bike Ai Ueada caught me just before the first turn around then we worked together to catch two Koreans, one of them was drop eventually. There were 5 loops on the bike. The first 3 loops I was doing Okay…we where pushing and pushing, the hill was getting steeper and steeper every time we pass it. On the 4th loop I was really feeling the pain. Fight LC fight!!! Told myself….hang on!
Run: I did hang on….On the run I just push as hard as I can… The leaders pass me on my second loop…when the two Emma passed me…I was like wow….#!@%….(I’ll run like in a few years)…On my last loop my legs was getting heavy…When I crossed the finish line they where awarding the top three finisher…

Post Race:
Big slap in the face…wapack!
I have a lot of things to do before I’ll get there…Takes time…but I’ll work on it…
Sunday morning: I woke up early in the get off the bed I was soooooo sore…. I put on my shoes, sweat pants and jacket and went for my run and enjoy a little bit of Korea at the same time.
It was a good weekend for me. I really had a blast suffering and racing at the same time.
Bye for now

Global Warming

April 22nd, 2009 by leacolinelangit

April is almost over, as far as I remember end of April here in the Philippines should be hot hot hot!

If I’m not mistaken for the last five days here in Subic its been raining so hard. My past two track sessions, I was running with my new found friends named thunder and lightning. Couple of frogs was also running with me, I thought they where stone so I kick them because they where running in my lane.

Climate change is really happening…Yesterday was the EARTH DAY celebration…So almost everything in National Geographic and Discovery channel was about global warming or anything related to it. What caught my attention when I was watching one of the show in National Geographic, they said that, everyday 14,000 cars are sold around the world…Would you imagine that! It’s crazy!

Just Imagine this. What if 14,000 bikes will be sold everyday…would it be nice for our environment. I hope we could act now before it’s to late!

Oh Rufus!

April 14th, 2009 by leacolinelangit

It’s been a little over a week since Rufus made his first visit in our back door. Rufus is a cat by the way.

If your a cat lover, if you saw a stray cat just wondering outside your backyard there are few things that you can do. First: you can feed them with canned of pink salmon, tuna, maybe some meat and skimmed milk. Second: you can also treat them like your own baby, giving him love, shelter , talking to them even if they don’t understand any human language and of course giving them an awful name like RUFUS, even if it’s a female cat. Well, in our house Donna is the only cat lover. Mommy Donna did all this to Rufus, that lucky cat!

Me and Tereza hate Rufus “ The psycho cat”, as we called him or her(we don’t really know it’s gender)
Yesterday, My housemate Donna and Tereza left Subic to go to China for this weekend Ironman race. Mommy Donna, reminded me couple of times before she left that I have to feed Rufus, with out any hesitation I said NO! NO WAY! He or she’s not my problem!..

Well, okay Donna…I’ll try to be nice, If I see Rufus outside I’ll feed the tuna that you bought for him…because I’m a good friend and I want to do something nice for you, NOT FOR RUFUS “the psycho cat”! for you.

Weekend Training sessions

April 2nd, 2009 by leacolinelangit

Just three days after I arrived in Subic from Singapore I jump back to a car and went to Manila to do two races in the weekend.

The Saturday race is the Powerade Duathlon in Macapagal Ave. Composed of 7km run, 30km bike and finish off with 4km run. The race started at 8am so it was hot…I love it! good for training. I felt good on my 7km run, then 30km bike, it was a 6 loops bike course, so before the race I visualized the course, I know the road won’t be totally close for some cars and other weekend warriors training in that time also. So, I have to be cautious on the bike, no reason to go crazy and crashed. Then the last run…It was crazy hot, I was fighting the heat and smoke from the cars. I was racing with the boys throughout the race in the span of 1 hour and 37 mins, to be exact. I finished 3rd overall, two boys where a head of me and I finish first overall in the women’s division.

Start of the race(I’m easy to spot, the little one in front wearing pink)

Sunday: The Pinay in Action All women’s run (10k race)

I was in pain when I woke up last Sunday, with a little bit of smile, laughing at myself when I was going down the stairs like a grandma. I had a lot of fun racing the 10k run, with the best runner in the Philippines. I pushed hard on my last half of the race, I also encountered a obstacle during the last half. I didn’t get a chance to get water because if I did, I have to stop. Many runners was on the water station hanging out and taking their time, might as well fight it and endure everything, than loose momentum. It was a good obstacle course and it’s just a 10k run..No water needed !hahaha. On the 6km mark I caught this varsity runner who was ahead of me to get the 3rd spot.

It was a productive weekend, I got to bring home some goodies and some PESOS! I want to thank, Senator Pia for the run, it was nice seeing that many women running and supporting Pinay in Action causes and also I want to thank Ani for organizing the event, job well done. Thank you also to ate Popo and Thumbie for organizing the Powerade Duathlon

10k top 3

70.3 Check

March 27th, 2009 by leacolinelangit

It was a last minute decision to do the 70.3 Singapore, last March 23,2009. Nine days before the race, I finally have a confirmation from the organizers, In the middle of our team photo shot Alex (our team manager) announced that “I’m in”, I will take the slot of my housemate Erika Csomor. All right! No turning back now, I’m ready to go and do my first half Ironman. I told Coco, I’ll do my best, and I try not to let her down.

I was so excited going to the race, Team TBB send Me, Rebekah, Lucie, Tereza, Jocelyn, Reinaldo, Cameron and Manny. Rebekah was so nice to give me some pointers prior to the race, she went like this from Friday to the race day” Ok Little One, do this, do that, get some rest, eat this, don’t forget to wash your hands before eating and after you make a poopy” hahaha. (Not that far, but almost) The atmosphere throughout the event was different than what I’m use d too, I have to say I was comfortable before the race and enjoying myself.

Rebekah, thinking of something to say to me

Sunday morning: Race day: Game plan: Swim hard, get on the first pack! Push on the bike and do my best on the run!

One minute before the start, I lined up in front, on my left was Tereza and on my right was Lucie. The gun went off, I had a good beach run, the first few meter on the swim was Andrea Hewitt, perfect! After 50 meters there was a little gap between me and Andrea Hewitt, I tired to sprint and breach the gap, but the gap was getting bigger and bigger, next thing I know she was on my left, a few meters away. I change my direction and she and the rest of lead pack was pulling away by 10 meters, then 11, 12,13, …you get the picture. After the first loop I was swimming with one male elite and Rebekah. On to my last loop, I finally got my rhythm. I got off the swim a few second in front of Rebekah and the other guy. It took me longer than the two to leave the transition area, because I have to put on my socks, so it takes me a little longer than them. It was a two days debate about that socks by the way, should I put on a socks or not, I decided I have to put the socks the night before the race because my bike shoes is one size bigger than what I should be wearing.

(After the first loop on the swim)

Bike: The first thing that went into my thought, is to forget about my awful swim and move on in the bike and focus on my ride. I push the pedal as hard and consistent as possible, I told myself “push hard, just like in training” and try not to go crazy and blow up. Before my first loop on the bike, I drop my water bottle from my hydro tail because I did not notice the little circular gap on the road. The funny thing was, when I passed the same spot for the second loop there where maybe 5 water bottles on the side of the road, then on my third loop there where around 10 or more water bottles on the same spot where I drop mine.

Run: Before the race Rebekah, told me to take some gel every 30- 45 mins during the run. On my first loop, I was feeling good on my run. I thought my pace was good enough to descend my time every loop, but that wasn’t the case. After my first loop I was thinking about taking a gel and get some electrolytes in my body, because every aids station that I pass I only get the water, not the 100 plus drink, but I decided maybe I’ll take it later because I was feeling fine, oops!!!…it was a mistake. On the 11km mark I felt my body getting heavier and heavier, I was feeling the pain! on my 12km mark, I decided to take the gel, I was on a hurry to take it, I forgot about water to got with the thick and sticky gel, I was 600 meters away from the water station, for 30-40 seconds the gel is still in my mouth then I decided better swallow it because I can’t breath properly. After I swallowed the gel, I need water right away but I still have a few meters away from the water station! Nice… On my last loop the only thought that went into my mind was keep my legs moving, keep my cadence up, your almost there! I was very happy with all the supporters in the race, even the people that I don’t know was cheering and saying my name during the run, it was awesome! Finally, I finish my first Half Ironman. 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km Run total 70.3 Miles, CHECK! 30 mins(terrible swim) 2hrs and 40 bike and 1hr and 35 mins run. Looking forward to improve more and do more races!

Not a very happy camper

I enjoyed the whole weekend so much and also enjoyed racing for 4hours and 50 mins. It was a good training session and I learned a lot from the race. Then it was time to say good-bye to my teammates, Rebekah was the first one to leave, I’m going to miss her a lot especially during swim sessions. I also said good-bye to Lucie, I will miss her presence in the pool also and in the track. Reinaldo and Cameron also went to their own country. See you soon guys, kick ass in your upcoming races!

At Last!

March 17th, 2009 by leacolinelangit

Last March 3, 2009, I attended Coach Guy and Tricia’s wedding. Coach Guy was my College swimming coach at De La Salle University and also my professor in one of my major class. Tricia and me met through common friends in Triathlon community. For years me and my other teammates want Coach Guy to find someone who can make him feel better, so he can smile once in a while. Believe me, coach guy never smile, even when he crack some jokes(his own jokes, can you believe that!). No reaction at all! Except when my teammates and I screw up in training or in competitions, anger is the only reaction we saw.

Well, three years ago I introduced them to one another hoping cupid can do something. Coach Guy is smart, athletic (represented Philippine in Soul Olympics 1988 and he also Swam for Berkeley University) and he is a SERIOURS guy. Tricia is smart, athletic and BUBBLY… notice the difference. But nothing happened..oh…well.They wasted 3 years together.hahaha…Eventually last year when I casually introduced then to one another again something click…OH YES!..Everything is history. AT LAST!! My persistence pays off. Congratulation again guys…really happy for you. Can’t we to see Coach Guy do a triathlon race.

At the reception with my bandage..Caught in the act….Too busy eating the great food no time to take pictures…thanks to Fiona, where I got the photos

The newlyweds

Two and half weeks ago, I was limping in the outside lane in the run track with Rebekah while everybody is running …Patience, patience….I’ll get my shot to run again, that’s all I think about that time! When I left Subic to go back to Manila for Coach Guy and Tricia’s wedding, I can’t wait to go back to Subic and run again, during my two and half days in Manila, oh man…my feet was so itchy to run…but I didn’t because the boss gave me a strict order not too. I left Subic at Sunday afternoon then Wednesday morning I caught one of the earliest bus to go back to Subic. I was all smile when I joined the group during the run session…AT LAST! I was running properly again without an aching knee.

AT LAST…. 70.3 Singapore here I come!
