Next week, I’ll be heading off to Noumea in New Caledonia. I’m going there to race my first olympic distance in 3 years, I’m very excited, I really like to race olympic distances!! I’ve always wanted to do this race but I’ve just never been in Australia for long enough to make the trip to NC but this year, I can finally make it because we’re staying here in OZ for a bit longer. When I went to Uni, I did my major in french so that’ll become very handy next week as NC is a french colony, it might be a little rusty though since I haven’t used it for the last 6 months. When I did my bachelor project, I actually did a study on NC and since I’ve got one day there after the race, I’m looking forward to do a bit of sight seeing. Guy Vernay, Patrick’s dad, is the race organiser and he’s been great, helping me with my flights and accomodation, I wish that all the race organisers would be as generous!!! I’ll keep you posted after the race. Hopefully, I can get some of those slowtwitch fibers to go a bit quicker!!!
Archive for April, 2009
It’s already April which means that I’ve been in Australia for the last 6 months. I think that I’m the only one in the squad that haven’t been training with our squad in the Philipines. Because I’m a mum, I’ve got special rights!! So I’ve just been training here on the Sunshine Coast where I have all the help that I need so that I can still train while some one else is with Astrid. My net work of amazing helpers are AJ, grandma, Rebecca at the Noosa pool and Rebecca from family day care. I’m very lucky and so is Astrid.
When I first got he, I did most of my traning on my own, except for the riding. Everyone morning, there’s a bike group leaving from Noosa and there just the nicest guys. No big egos just a really cool bunch of people. I’ve joined in for the hilly Tuesday ride, the fast and flat Thursday ride and the Twin Water ride on Saturday and it’s been great. After a few months here, more and more triathletes started to show up. So I joined the swim squad in Noosa 3 days a week and most days there would be 20 of us, all swimming together. It’s been really nice to get to know a lot of triathletes from all over the world that I’ve never meet before. It’s so cool that we can just train together like that, and again- no big egos.
Last week, most people started to leave, going to races or going home. So it’s getting a bit lonely again!!! I’m starting to really miss the swiss mountains, I love the riding there but when I llok at the Leysin webcam, I can see that there’s still quite a lot of snow back there so I’ll stay here for a little bit longer. Hopefully next month, all the snow will be gone. I’m very excited to meet the new Team TBB squad, so many new faces that I haven’t seen before, I’m excited to meet my new training partners.
See you in the swiss mouintains next month!!
