In Brasil for the IM

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Two weeks ago, I travelled from Australia back to the swiss mountains and now I’m in Brasil. Unfortunately without my little family this time so I’m struggling a little. I won this IM in 2006 and i hope to do well here again, it’s a course that really suits me. I arrived this morning and I expected the weather to be nice, warm and sunny but it’s actually overcast, it’s been raining in the last few days and it’s windy!! Florianopolis is a very nice part of Brasil, it’s where a lot of the rich Brasilians come for their holidays in the summer. The beaches are great and there’s a nice little mall and it’s good a nice feel about it, a great place to have an IM.
Today is a very long day for me because Brasil is 5 hours ahead of Switzerland. I’m trying to stay awake until tonight so that I can get into a good rythme straight away. I just miss my little Astrid making a lot of nice noise!!!
In the next couple of days, I’ll just get everything ready, take it a bit easy and get over the travelling before the gun goes on Sunday!!

A nice win!

Today I raced and won an olympic distance in New Caledonia. I’ve always wanted to do this race so I was very happy to be able to fit it into my race calendar this year.
The swim was a beach swim, 2 * 750m., with a run on the beach inbetween. I was sixt out of the water, I think. The bike course consisted of 3 laps, each 13,3 km. The course was pretty flat, except for a couple of hills, not very technical and quite windy, just what I like! I caught everyone after the first lap and stayed in front for the rest of the ride. So I was first off the bike and onto the run. In my last race, IM NZ, I had to run a marathon so it was pretty cool that I only had to run 10 km today!! With a higher heart rate though but no sore legs!. I was able to hold onto my lead throughout the run and I was very, very pleased to win a race again.
