Hey all
So im back at home, back to training like always. So far since i got back from europe i have race twice both times in california and both races part of the sponsored avia series tri-california. this folks from tri-cal put on great events well organize and always get tons of athletes. at my first race i end up in 5th at the pacific grove triathlon, this was my first time there so I was happy to meet the avia guys and race back in the usa. this past weekend I went back to San luis obispo and did the long course race, a mistake that i made during the running part cost me a couple of spots. During the first lap of the run i got confused and went the wrong way running a couple of minutes off the trail. I end up in 6th at the inaugural Scott Tinleys long course triathlon, wish im not happy with my finish but despite the mistake i realize that the running legs are coming back bit by bit.

happy training

I got the chicken?!?!!?

August 25th, 2009 by mannyhuerta

so im almost down to my last week here in leysin, training has been hard on these mountains and the weather here can rock you. after my trip to alpe dhuez doc and the squad gave me the chicken pretty much just for being the “bean ” of the week, what did i dO wrong? well coming out of the water i lost my balance and right at t1 and triped and fell injuring my big toe on my left foot, kept going until 15 km of the run when my toe was black and my foot was a bit swollen.I figured that i would only keep the chicken for one week but since then everyone have been pretty awesome so i guess i will keep it for the rest of the camp.

Next for me will be pacific grove in september and scott tinleys in october, both races in california and part of the trical series.

ciao for now

ready to go

May 12th, 2009 by mannyhuerta

so the past couple of days have been a bit busy, training and taking care of last minute things before i go to oklahoma. like i said on my last blog this race is the pan american championships and many juniors and u23 from south and central america will be going, a great opportunity for me to collect good sport equipment and give them out so that the can used them back at home. born in 3rd world country myself many times i swam without goggles or ran without shoes but now with TBB aboard and the help of many great people out there I can be help to make it better for many youngsters dreamers. Yesterday it was awesome i drove up to Boca raton with my friend Boris who will be crossing the english channel in June for a charity. He will be the first cuban swimmer to attempt this, for more info about his challenge and fund raiser click here : http://www.tri-boris.com/

so we drove up to meet with the Tri Boca crew and gave them a little talk and some tips about open water swimming and at the same time they donated tons of tri equipment for my social project, so i’m stoke i got enough stuff that i had plus the ones i just collected to also send the Subic Bay, philippines social project crew another box.

here are some photos that my mom took while organizing it.

2 for 1

May 11th, 2009 by mannyhuerta

hey all,

well im still in miami with family and friends and getting back to the training routine, swimming with uss club team (Rockway) biking and running in key biscayne. This upcoming weekend will be an important weekend for me, every since I was kid back in havana the pan-american championships in any sport were a very big deal, heck if you win a medal at a pan-american championship the cuban government would give you a Lada, a soviet car that tends to have many problems ;) this time around im not going to be racing for a lada but this year the panams are coming to oklahoma and i will be there. now the reason why all of the sudden i decided to go is that i also saw a big opportunity to start my social project, and yes i’m on it. After several emails with Patco the governing body of this region, USAT, Triathlon Canada and the organizer I was given green light to talk with all the juniors u-23 elites and age groups from north america racing this weekend to bring with them any sport equipment that is still in good shape and that they no longer use with the purpose of donating it to the other young athletes from the OTHER AMERICA. I already collected here with the local club and friends a box full of wetsuits, cycling shoes , goggles ect and i will be taking it with me to handle it out at the juniors briefing. I also been contacted by USAT magazine to write an article about how Team TBB and myself will get this going for the future. So I got me a ticket a home stay and ill be there hoping to get only smiles in return.

ill keep all of you posted on this with photos next week

St Croix

May 6th, 2009 by mannyhuerta

Well just got back from st croix 70.3, this was my second half of my career and i must said that im liking the distance. the course is very tough going up and down on the bike the whole time, the main hill is called “the beast” it starts at 12 % all the way up to 27 %. the run a tough one too very hilly part on trail, golf course and concrete, but over all a well set up event with amazing support.

here is a bit of my race report, started the swim on the bay, the swim was quick ( the top 11-12 of us in the first pack all broke the swim course record) i felt pretty good all the way got on the bike and the boys were flying, rode pretty steady the whole way and got to the run in the top 10. once i started running the legs were shot and the first lap of the run was ok but on the second one i felt like having a piano on my back. overall Im glad that i went there and race on this course because next year ill be back but without the piano :)

I want to thank Tom the race director for putting a great race, Also My great home stay Carol a triathlete as well from the island took care of me for my entire stay, her friend Scott and Heniff who drove me around and to everyone that in some way or the other made me feel welcome.

ps already got my new avia bolts 2 and wow, love them.

Miami Nike Swim

April 25th, 2009 by mannyhuerta

So I’m back at home, after a very long trip from china and still jet lag and tired from the trip I’m back into training mode. I did a few swimming sessions with my swim club here and today I swam the Miami Nike 5km swim, the conditions were a bit rough very windy and strong current ?!?!?! sounds familiar ??? china anyone anyone ?!?!?!? anyways i jumped in the men Open wave, this event had about 600 swimmers most of them from south florida clubs and a few triathletes, some bad asses in the race included Gary Hall jr Olympic Medalist on the 50 mt freestyle, he did the 1 mile swim so I did not have to worry about even think of trying to sprint against him ;)

I dove in and from the beginning i was a bit dead didn’t have my usual get out speed but i wasn’t worry since it was just a training session for me today, in the first 4 km i was holding in 2nd but end up in 3rd in the OPEN wave at the end, so ok. ate some food i went on a bike ride after that.

next weekend I’ll be racing in st. croix for the 70.3 and then back here for a while.

so this week doc got back to camp and there are a few of us left since most of the other athletes have gone different ways to go race. the temperature has gotten a bit cooler this past couple of days my srm was reading 47 C on my ride today. once i get home to the US im going to have to start riding on the rollers inside a sauna if i want to even come close to this, im not complaining at all, i think is great it would make any race conditions seem like a walk on the park. A couple of days ago we had terezas and my birthday party on the track for a long afternoon, half way through the run i was bonking a bit and i guess doc saw it on my face i gave me one of his ice coffee, within minutes i was back on pace and i realize that i had just run out of fuel. today on the ride i stopped at the 7eleven and decided to try some of this nescafe to find out if my stomach could keep it in and it seems to work well, so if i get approval by doc i will be taking a 6 pack of this with me to china in a few days.

so what are the ingredients ?!?!?! this is what is written on the can : Air,Gula, susu bubuk skim, kopi bubuk instan, bubuk kakao, penstabil makanan, perisa moka, natrium bikarbonat, kalium sitrat…..

hhhmmmm coming from cuba i swear this sounds like a budu recipe
anyways its taste pretty good.
