Once Upon A Ruffneck.

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Hey well one of the most common questions I get is how to get started as a real athlete?

It’s a question that I asked 2 Olympic Silver medlalist rowers in September 2004 post Athens games. It was at a tookit organised by Pacic Sport regularly to show what commitment and passion can achive!  At that place and time I was pizza delivery boy fresh out of high school who was promissing junior.

The two rowers both took the same road.

They both took time off training and racing and exclsively worked in the real world to save up enuff money to get started and even when they where carded by sports Canada, that all the money saved up was still very usefull.

So I look to my left and asked my friend Rob. http://www.robarazzi.biz/

What job I could do where I make lots of cash in a quick period of time?

He told me on a drillng rig up in northern Alberta in the area where he was originally from.

About 2 years later, I followed up on that idea because seems like sky was conspiring, something. And guess what, my first night in Edmonton I stayed on Rob’s couch at his brothers house. His rommate endend up getting me a job a few weeks later and then I was surfing the dirty oil wave! Trippin pipe, twisting wrenches and doing the connections 9 meters at a time!

That whole experience was 7 month long. Made me age a little faster but it did inflate my bank account ;)

Well, Barney, Rob and Tom, you played a lilttle but crucial role on my career!

Thank you :)
