Busselton 70.3

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

So just two days ago I officially kicked off my season with the Busso Half.Busselton is a beautiful little town 3 hours south of Perth, with with surrounding areas along the Margaret river, known for it’s famous wineries and the famous surf break!
After no races for 5 months I was so excited to be racing, and also very grateful that I could even toe the start line!
Unfortunately two weeks ago I was taken out by a distracted driver! The driver decided to do a right hand turn in front of me, whilst I was riding at 35km/hr! I hit the windscreen with my head and My right shoulder snapped his side mirror off!
I consider myself so lucky that I didn’t break anything ,just had sever headaches and concussion!Brett says it may ” knock some sense into me” !
So back to my first race, Brett wasn’t too keen on the idea with my head still hurting and my right arm I could barely swim!
Having to sit out Port Mac 70.3 that previous wknd because of my crash I wasn’t going to miss out on Busso!
My swim was ok and I exited in 3rd not far off the leader, the three top women and string riders formed on the bike with myself Belinda Granger and Jo Lawn!
Off the bike I was 3 min down running just infront of Jo, by 7 km had took the lead and had around 30 seconds feeling strong!
By 10 km Jo had passed me and I didn’t have much in the tank I had gone out so hard to gap th and get a lead knowing the two weeks off would show at the back end of my race!
Unfortunately I didn’t win but it was very close with the top three myself and Belinda !
Thanks to WTC for a fantastic event and congrats to the other two ” old birds ” for pushing me! Who says you get slower as you get older? Jo Lawn at 37years young did a pb on the race 4:13 and In the run 1:22 and I still managed a 415!
Not a bad start to the season to get a podium but I hate loosing so I dont want to make a habit of it!
