The last 10 days were characterised by pack and unpack bags, smiling at photo shoots, spending time at the airport and … winning another race for my palmarès. Mooloolaba, Brisbane-Darwin-Manila-Bangkok-Koh Samui-Bangkok-Kuala Lumpure Gold Coast Mooloolaba … that was my route.
First we went for 5 days in the Philippines for the promotion of our new team TBB Alaska Philippines (more details see this link HERE). Immediately afterwards, we went to Thailand for the inargrual of Koh Samui Triathlon (partner event of Embrunman FRA). A great race with hard / hot conditions and some other “unusual” challenges. For me, the event was a welcome reason to travel to Thailand again, I like this country and their culture very much.
The race itself was on some stages a bit dangerous so I tried to stay away of crashes and other hazards. I knew we had to expect some special conditions on the bike course – dogs, chickens and cows on the street. I thought, no problem, if you know it and it does not bother you. So I was more or less not riding my bike in the aero position, just to be ready if I had to use the brakes. One participant wasn`t lucky and got hit by a car. I hope you will get better soon Katja! On the run course, I paced myself in the first 15km, made sure I stayed hydrated and cool even in 38-40 degrees. The second 15km I worked a bit harder to make sure I can keep my lead which was melted down to 3minutes now. Goal of the race: smallest possible expenditure and damage to the body to get the best out of the day. After the finish, Steffen / Dellow, our first double victory could be celebrated, how exciting and unique is that!?
With this victory in Koh Samui, Thailand I have completed my first-third in 2012 and now I’m looking forward to the season in Europe.
Cheers from Mooloolaba to see you soon in Switzerland,
