I’m goin’ to Mcdonalds tonight….

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

….after the track session, in which we destroy ourselves this evening, I’m going straight to McDonalds this time…no doughnuts, they are too sweet…i’m gonna go, get my 3 or 4 cheeseburges, sit outside the store, eat them, and just stare at teh ground for a while.

Then I will hop on my taxi, my Cervelo P2, and try and make it home, back up teh hill….with a belly full of white—wait—-a belly full of McDonalds

Thanks Brett and Avia…running, running, running-not injured :-)

If you’ve known me as a triathlete at some point over the last 7-8 years I have been doing the sport, you know I am always complaining about shin injuries. Ever since a stress fx in 2002 I was always having problems in my left shin. I was injured for a month, running off and on for a while, injured again, never consistent running. I once added a years of worth of running miles, I was averaging 17 miles a week(about 30k). I was confined more and more to running only on super soft surfaces, and with bulky motion control shoes(which I don’t need, being 155 pounds, 6’1″, and really nothing wrong with my running stride). I managed what I thought were some ok run splits (2:57 IM, and 1:18 1/2 IM) but now that I joined this team, I learned that is not going to cut it for a male athlete with my weak swim and bike.

So, a big reason I sought out Brett was too see if he could help me with my running injury. I knew that everything I had been trying up to now was not working. I won’t go into detail on whats going on here, but I running in the best pair of shoes I have ever owned (Avia Bolts), every day, for every run…and so far Bretts program I am having no shin pain whatsoever, AND its all outdoors on the asphalt or the track-A big “no no” for me in the past. I haven’t been keeping a training log since I have been here, but its way more running than I have ever been able to manage in the past…In the past I had a few bigger run weeks leading to some IM’s, but they leave my leg near fractured, buuut, no more.

So, I’m hopefull I can improve my run splits with handling more running than before…and the swim and bike can go better too :-) ). A few tight IM races in the past, some cuts off my run would have had me on the podium, so this is my goal for the season, to get on an IM podium. Hopefully I’ll get 5 or 6 opportunities :-p.

A poem called Bolts

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Take out the bolts-put down your insults-these shoes are fast-don’t like to be last-so out into the sun-for a run-the shoes are black-and soon i’ll be tanning my back-the heel is concave-so its good on teh pave-ed roads are so nice-wouldn’t think twice-to pick another shoe-they are not slow like glue-so what else to do-then go super fast-so I can be first-not last-the run will be fun-out in the sun-its not so hot-when you got-avia bolts on your feet-feel so fleet-wouldn’t you like to meet-your best time in the race-this is the place-in these shoes-paying your dues-so come try them out-and don’t pout-new styles this spring-makes you want to sing-but don’t be late-they’ll sell like a cake-on your birthday-gotta say-this poem is over-later-spater-bye-bye

I’ve been here in Subic a few days now.  The first few days(first days outside the U.S. in my life) were a little scary, but now that I have seen most of the roads, know where the pool and track are, and have stocked up groceries, I’m happy.  I’ve started meeting people on the team, and who work for the team, and they are all cool.  Outside of being freaked out in the middle of the night by some massive cockroaches, I think I’ll be ok.  Annnd, I found the station showing American Idol :-P .
