If you’ve known me as a triathlete at some point over the last 7-8 years I have been doing the sport, you know I am always complaining about shin injuries. Ever since a stress fx in 2002 I was always having problems in my left shin. I was injured for a month, running off and on for a while, injured again, never consistent running. I once added a years of worth of running miles, I was averaging 17 miles a week(about 30k). I was confined more and more to running only on super soft surfaces, and with bulky motion control shoes(which I don’t need, being 155 pounds, 6’1″, and really nothing wrong with my running stride). I managed what I thought were some ok run splits (2:57 IM, and 1:18 1/2 IM) but now that I joined this team, I learned that is not going to cut it for a male athlete with my weak swim and bike.
So, a big reason I sought out Brett was too see if he could help me with my running injury. I knew that everything I had been trying up to now was not working. I won’t go into detail on whats going on here, but I running in the best pair of shoes I have ever owned (Avia Bolts), every day, for every run…and so far Bretts program I am having no shin pain whatsoever, AND its all outdoors on the asphalt or the track-A big “no no” for me in the past. I haven’t been keeping a training log since I have been here, but its way more running than I have ever been able to manage in the past…In the past I had a few bigger run weeks leading to some IM’s, but they leave my leg near fractured, buuut, no more.
So, I’m hopefull I can improve my run splits with handling more running than before…and the swim and bike can go better too
). A few tight IM races in the past, some cuts off my run would have had me on the podium, so this is my goal for the season, to get on an IM podium. Hopefully I’ll get 5 or 6 opportunities :-p.
