My facial hair has been growing now since I left China, not sure how long I will keep it growing? It seems to be giving me some power though, last week was a great week of training. I am resting up today, and will be back ready to hit it again tommorow. Once I think all the power has diffused out of my beard and into my legs, then I can shave it.

as has become evident to me the last few weeks!!
I started the Gulf Coast Half Ironman yesterday morning in Panama City Beach, Florida. I love the race and the venue, with everyone just parking on Thomas Drive, in the sand, and the warm sun and nice beach. Its the same venue as Ironman Florida is held in November. I have done this race in 2007 and 2008 as an early season race to get rolling. I was 3rd in 2007, and 2nd in 2008. Last year was really fun, I ran 11 miles side by side with Mike Neill from Canada, and he ended up dropping me with 1.5 miles to go or so.
So this year I came in just trying to take a step back to fitness, and prepare for Couer d’Lane after a down race at Ironman China 3 weeks ago. Things were going ok out of the water, a no wetsuit swim for the pros in some rough water, I was out with Mike, right where I normally am, so no problems there. Onto the bike I knew I was still on my way back to shape, and it showed, as I was well off the pace and came off the bike in 3rd place 5 minutes back of Mike, and about 4 minutes slower than last years ride in similar conditions. But, it was alot better feeling of a ride than I had a three weeks ago, so things are moving in the right direction. Onto the run my first goal was to just see if I could pull back some time to 2nd place, and get that 1,000 dollars prize for 2nd. I heard splits coming down and was within 90 seconds according to a few guys on the road between 3-4 miles. My legs felt solid, not fast, but solid and not jello, a feeling I haven’t felt since last season when running off the bike…so this is good for the races to come as well. Anyways, I was between mile 4 and 5 and this course has quite a few turns back on the side streets, I can recognize buildings and what not while running the course, but do not have the exact streets memorized. So somewhere, somehow, I pulled a run forest run and just kept running. Not sure if there was a missing volunteer or what, I didn’t hear anyone yell or anything :-(, but I ran a long freakin time before I ended up back at mile 1.5 or so of the course. So there it was, my chance at some money and 2nd place was gone. I handed in my chip b/c I was told I would not get a result for being off the course so much, and went for a little jog to get the rest of the miles in my legs….and that was my day. Buuuummmmmeeerrrrr. But it seems like down races and experiences have always lit me up, and got me more motivated to smash it in training…see ya in Couer d’Lane!!!

Hello, and welcome to my Crib…I mean Daves Homestay, here in Clermont, Florida….A place I have spent some time training the last few years. We get alot of people thru here, at one point 18 of us crammed in this house :-), but its always fun with all the cats, racoons, and birds flying around the house. Right now its quiet, just Dave, myself, and my friend Matt are here. Oh I raced a 12k today, got 2nd, partied a little out there, good tempo run.
